How verification works

A badge on Copper Supply is a statement of fact: what we checked, and when. Nothing more. This page explains each level, what we never claim, how we look after your documents, and what to do if something goes wrong.

The levels

Four levels, each with a clear limit

Every new member starts at Not verified (email confirmed only). Each level above it adds specific checks.
  1. Level 1ID checked

    Identity checked

Government ID, live selfie and sanctions screening.

    • Photo of a government ID, front and back
    • A live selfie taken on the spot
    • Name screened against international sanctions lists

What it doesn't prove: Proves the person is who they say. It says nothing about their company or their copper.

  2. Level 2Company checked

    Company checked

Company registry, directors and sanctions on the company.

    • Company registration certificate
    • Directors and owners checked against the registry
    • Proof of address and a sanctions check on the company

What it doesn't prove: Proves the company exists and the person can act for it. It does not prove the company holds stock.

  3. Level 3Has traded

    Has traded

Past shipment papers reviewed by our team.

    • Past bills of lading and invoices
    • Inspection certificates from earlier shipments
    • Licence or cadastre checks for producers

What it doesn't prove: Shows a real trading history that a person on our team reviewed. Past trades don't guarantee the next one.

  4. Level 4Goods seen

    Goods seen

An independent inspector confirmed the material on site.

    • An independent inspector visits the site or warehouse
    • Material or plant confirmed on a stated date
    • Expires and is re-checked

What it doesn't prove: Confirms what the inspector saw on that day. Stock moves, so always check the date.

The process

What happens when you apply

  1. Step 1

You send what the level needs

From the verification centre, photograph your ID, take a live selfie, or upload company papers. It works on a phone, and paper documents are fine.

  2. Step 2

    A person reviews it

Our team checks the documents against registries and sanctions lists. Where we use an identity-check provider, a person still makes the decision.

  3. Step 3

    You get a dated badge

If everything checks out, your badge shows the level and the date. If not, you see our notes and what to send next.

  4. Step 4

    It expires, or is removed

Badges last 12 months and must be renewed. A badge is removed straight away if a fraud report against the member is upheld.

Our limits

What we never claim

  • That a member has copper today, unless the badge is L4 and only on the date shown
  • That a cargo meets its stated grade or weight
  • That a deal is safe, or that we recommend a counterparty
  • That a document is genuine because our checker found no problems
  • Member numbers, deal volumes or reviews that aren't real

We never hold trade money

Copper Supply is not a party to your trade. We don't hold funds, take title to goods or act as escrow. Payment goes between buyer and seller, or through their banks or an escrow agent they choose.

If anyone asks you to pay Copper Supply to release cargo or unlock a deal, it is a scam. Report it.

The full wording is in our verification scope.

Your data

How we look after your documents

  • Private by default

Identity and trade documents are stored in private storage, never on public links.

  • Links that expire

When you or an authorised reviewer opens a file, it uses a link that stops working after a few minutes.

  • Rules in the database

Who can see what is enforced by the database itself, not just by the screens in the app.

  • Seen only when needed

ID documents are seen only by the people reviewing your verification. Other members never see them.

Copper Supply is operated by CSS International Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under number 16110027. We process personal data under UK GDPR.
